Setup for an andriod Development Environment & andriod installation:
These are the steps to get start with andriod development on Windows
- Java JDK 1.7
- Eclipse (optional)
Download JRE and Install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-6u25-download-346243.html
Download and install the Java Development Kit (JDK)

Download an IDE and Install Eclipse
You can download the latest version of Eclipse software here:
Download Android SDK
You can find here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
choose “ installer_r21-windows.exe” ” (recommended) file under SDK Tools only
Accept the Terms and Conditions to Download an Executable File
Select .exe file and Save it for Future Reference
Select .exe file and Right-Click then run it as an administrator for that choose Run as Administrator option
Now the Android SDK Tools Setup starts
Click Next to Move Forward
Verifying Whether Java SE Development kit is installed
If found it Displays the Location of the Directory as shown below
Choose Installation Type and Click Next to Continue
Default path is chosen by Setup
To Change Location Select Browse and Proceed then Click Next to Continue
To Create Shortcuts Mark Checkbox at Bottom-Left and then Click Install button to Start the Installation Process

Here we can see that Installation of Android
SDK Tools is Completed Successfully
Click Next to Finish the Process
Setup was Completed Successfully
Mark Start SDK Manager and Click Finish (Completing the Setup Wizard)
Then Immediately after Closing the Setup it Starts SDKManager.exe
Android SDK Manager:
Here, need to Install the Various Versions of Android and their respective Packages to Develop and Run an Android Application
To Open -> SDK manager, Go to Home Directory where Android –>SDK is Located then Select SDK Manager Right - Click andRun as Administrator Under Tools Android SDK Tools Package Status is Installed (as we installed just before starting SDK Manager) & Android SDK Platform Tools Package need to Install by Selecting the File, Click on Install Package at Bottom-Left corner
Accept License Agreement then Install
Now it starts Loading Packages to Install
Android SDK platform tools status is installed.
We can check the status of success and failure in ‘Log’ file which automatically opens after installing (as shown below).
Android Tools were Installed Successfully.
Installation of packages under various versions.
Choose any compatible version to develop an application.
Installation of Android 2.3.3 version.
Select the package, accept the license agreement then install
Done loading 1 package under android 2.3.3 (API 10).
Choosing multiple packages under various versions to install.
As we select multiple packages at a time to install there may be a
chance to fall under trouble.
Log file results that some packages were interrupted while downloading and failed to load.
So better go for single package selection at a time.
Here multiple packages were chosen but only two packages were installed successfully.
Android 2.3.3 version was installed successfully.
Same process repeats for each version
Installation of android 4.2 (Latest version)
These packages can be installed later in future so select only the necessary packages.
Tools, Android 4.2, Android 2.3.3 were installed as shown below
To Run the Application on Emulator AVD Manager is necessary, To create and manage AVD follow the steps Select manage AVDs under tools panel
Android Virtual Device (AVD) Manager Window View Select New to Create an AVD
Fill the Details
- AVD name – Name of AVD (any name)
- Device –Type of Emulator
- Target - Android version
- Size- approximate size
These details are necessary to create new AVD and leave the Default columns as it is and click OK to create an AVD
Here we can verify the Details of an AVD after creating
AVD is stored in the location C:\Users\Geek\.android\avd
For any changes click edit and to start the AVD select MyAvd and Click Start to Launch
Select the Emulator View with the help of Launch Options then Click Launch to Start an Emulator
